the rename

Progress Over Perfection is now Field Notes. The old name described a worldview. The new one describes what's actually in the box.

Field Notes wordmark in italic serif on a warm cream background, with a muted bronze cursor. Dek below reads: notes from the ai-native frontier.

This newsletter is now Field Notes. The rename is a positioning change, not a pivot.

Every week I'm in rooms and on calls with teams that have bought the AI tools and watched nothing change. That's the work I do now. The old name didn't describe it. This one does.

what changed

Progress Over Perfection was a stance I picked up during a different kind of work, advising founders, shipping my own products, trying to build the muscle of moving before I was ready. It was useful, but vague. It could have been anyone's newsletter.

Field Notes is what I write now: notes from the AI-native frontier. What's being built, what's shipping, what's stalling, what's actually different about doing the work when AI is load-bearing. Some of it comes from teams I'm helping. Some of it comes from what I'm building myself. All of it comes from the field, not from think pieces about the field.

what doesn't change

Everything else.

There is no revelation here. I'm doing the same thing I did last week. I just didn't want anyone surprised because the emails have a different title.

If your team is in one of those rooms — the tools bought, the mandate issued, nothing actually changing — that's the work I do at saadiq.xyz.
